Thorne is a specialist in sub-Saharan Africa and has a background in law, bringing experience in corporate intelligence and complex multi-jurisdictional investigations pertaining to bribery and corruption, fraud, workplace misconduct, insider trading, and other malfeasance.
He joined Raedas from Africa’s largest law firm, ENSafrica, where he managed teams of investigators, lawyers and accountants on dispute related instructions from clients in the financial services, private equity, energy, utilities and telecommunications sectors. Prior to that Thorne spent two years as an intelligence analyst in the Cape Town office of a UK-headquartered corporate intelligence and risk consultancy and a year as a political staffer for South Africa’s Official Opposition Party.
Thorne read towards an LLB law degree at the University of Pretoria and was awarded an LLM degree with distinction by the University of Cape Town. He is admitted as an Advocate of the High Court of South Africa (non-practising). Thorne speaks Afrikaans fluently and has a good understanding of Southern African political, regulatory and business dynamics.
